SECRETARY MESSAGE

The Surgical Oncologist, by virtue of being responsible for providing curative treatment for most solid tumors plays an important role in the multidisciplinary team that treats cancer. Hence, one can say that transformation of the surgical oncology fraternity may result in improved overall cancer care. The overwhelming response to the Northeast India Association of Surgical Oncology(NASO) in terms of the membership registrations, which have crossed 55 in the first year is heartening and this will enable us to carry out the objectives of the association with renewed vigor. We will continue to organize small meetings with focus on surgical skills. The first NASOCON planned at Shillong is an effort in this regard with pre-defined learning objectives for each talk. NASO will strive to encourage it's members to document their work, generate data and collaborate for research projects to answer pressing questions pertaining to the needs of the region. The support of all of you is essential in achieving our objectives.
